We’ve heard what you’ve been saying – here are a few select snippets (September 2017)

THIS WEEK’S TOPIC:

QWhat should the ANC be doing to end corruption and state capture?

“Leaders of the ANC should go back and revisit the basic principles of the organization and why the ANC was formed in 1912 … They must also revisit the principles of the Youth League, and why Mandela, Tambo and Sisulu were involved in 1944.” – Dan Plaatjie

“I believe that the ANC governing body should use this issue of state capture to fix its problems. Power hunger is what is causing the division in the organisation. Sitting down together and finding the solution is the way forward. … corruption looks like a winner in the organisation. Get our trust back by showing the public that you care by listening and respecting them. .. Laws were made to be followed, so leading by example is the key.”Andrew Ramatjie

“I believe that those in power should undergo character assessment every quarter during their terms in office, by using lie detector tests. It should be part of their contract, and the process should be conducted by different judges or authorities in order to avoid briery.” Bishop Elect Thulani Nkosi

“Put people into positions that they are qualified for. This cadre deployment is what is killing us. You have people that can’t put together a proper budget, POA, or run a project. This results in the ward programmes not being implemented properly – yet there are tons of unemployed graduates who could be of assistance.” – Nonhlanhla Precious Radebe

social media discussions

“I believe corruption should be dealt with from both sides – corruptor and corruptee – including all involved in the process, including the deal makers. This should also be extended to the private sector. End the SIU and Hawks, as they also appear to be captured, and create a unit similar to the Scorpions – independent of the Police, but under the Ministry of Justice. Every implicated politician and public service official should step aside until they have cleared their name. Limit the amount that officials can extend tenders for. The Procurement Office should conduct inspections of tenders issued, and any wrongdoing should be punished immediately.” Senki Kesilwe

“Start a State Bank and centralise the SOE finance. Have one bank to monitor any movement of money. Have a system in place to pick it up.” – Sizwe ka Nzima

“They must cut tenders and hire government employees to do the work. And ANC officials should not accept gifts from anyone.” – Surprise Lehlohonolo
